One of the best spas I have ever visited...

I visited this facility amidst the rolling hills of Austin's suburbs a few summers ago, back when it was called "The Crossings". I will never forget the amazing and beyond-professional quality of services procured there, from facials and sauna sessions, to the purification treatments and various types of massage. Not only were different essential oils and plant extracts incorporated during many of the therapeutic sessions, but the practitioners were exceedingly open to sharing information regarding the histories, active ingredients, and proper modes of use regarding the former. The scenery of this spa is nothing short of remarkable...the perfect backdrop and setting for truly unwinding and healing. In between treatments, partaking of the outer infinity pool or jetted hot tub (while hearing the ethereal howls of distant coyote) is akin to experiencing bliss and a little bit of heaven. In all honesty, if I was a permanent resident of Austin, Texas, this would be one of my regular hangouts. I recommend it to anyone who visits or is living in Austin. All who experience the various profferings of this place emerge newly born, in spirit and body. This place is what the concept of SPA truly embodies. Namaste.

Spent the day there 10/30/11 and can't say enough good things about the visit. Started off with Mediation class in the beautiful sanctuary. Then did the Equine Experience which was fun. Service was exceptional; the Equine Experience was booked, so they scheduled another class for the day so more people could do it. But the best was the spa services. Maren was the massage therapist and the Deep Sleep Aromatherapy Massage was THE BEST massage I ever had! I actually fell asleep, which I never do. Food was delicioust; service when I made the reservations was great with very good follow up. Great value for other resort destination spas of this quality. (I'm local, I didn't stay the night, can't comment on the accomodations). This is a great find, so peaceful and relaxing!

A beautiful getaway 15 minutes from my home

I went to the Crossings last month for a spa day all alone. It was beautiful and serene. I went on a Monday and was one of less than a dozen people everywhere I went. I started the morning with a guided hike of about 30 minutes through the wooded paths and visited the sanctuary. Then I went to a stretch class. Terrific stretching and relaxing, for a whole hour. There was a circuit class after that, but I was too relaxed for a high energy class - they could have reversed that. So I sat by the beautiful, calm pool for a while and read. The staff even came and shooed off the one other person there, a man who loudly talked on his cell for a long time. But they took care of it. Then I enjoyed a quiet lunch of tuna salad on WW bread and a salad in the small Tree House Cafe. Yummy! I returned to the pool, trying out the sauna and hot tub while there. Again, it was almost empty on this weekday. I had a massage in the afternoon, and they were most gracious. Everywhere were flavored lemon and cucumber waters, small bowls of healthy snacks. I ended the day with more pool/reading time and then showered and dressed to leave by 5 pm. I so did not want to leave! I will definitely go back, and maybe with my 18 yo daughter as a mother-daughter day.

The service from everyone at ths spa is incredible. They helped me every step of the way. They answered all my questions and bent over backwards for me. I can't say enough about the staff. If you think the pictures are incredible here, wait until you meet the STAFF!

The Crossings Spa
By NikiA | May 28, 2010

Originally posted on Yelp.com I was initially skeptical about visiting The Crossings. I did what any semi-quasi-logical gal would do. I sent The Crossings an email and received a well-written, long personal email in return. I quoted some of the things that were written on yelp... critical issues from food to services and beyond. And for each objection, I was given a good, honest response to each. (New Chef, for example!) After the exchange of emails, I decided to book a package. First of all, to clear up some confusion, the day pass price varies based on the season and depending on what day you choose to visit. AND, IT DOES INCLUDE LUNCH! Read more about that here: http://www.thecrossing... I'll be the first to say that the thought of paying $55 to spend a day at the spa without any services was crazy, but when I got to The Crossings, I understood. So here goes.... The place sits on more than 200 acres of Balcones Preserve land. (Gorgeous trails!) The grounds are incredibly peaceful! I spent two hours at the sanctuary, a large beautiful room with a couple of meditation pillows, a couple of simple chairs, and incredible views. There was a small pond outside, and all I could hear was the trickle of water. I haven't been that relaxed in MONTHS. Furthermore, I sat there uninterrupted. No noise. No people. Just a beautiful silently air-conditioned room surrounded by nature. Now for the pool. I spent a few hours in the pool as well. One of the benefits of visiting is that you have access to the non-tuition based activities. The day I visited, there was a "Fitness Fun" class scheduled indoors, but the instructor opted to hold a water-aerobics class. Now exercising while I'm at a spa didn't sound like it would be appealing, but the instructor was fantastic and admittedly, I was sore the next day. :) I thought water aerobics was for old ladies (no offense) but I was surprised at how good of a workout I got. It didn't feel like a good workout at the time, and I attribute that to the fact that water aerobics is not high impact. OOPS, tangent. So back to the pool. WOW! WOW! WOW! The photos on the website do NOT do it justice. Beautiful infinity edge pool overlooking Lake Travis and rolling Texas Hill Country. Outdoor showers, plush towels, comfortable loungers, a hot tub, and a cold dip had me smiling from ear to ear. Now to services. I opted for a mud wrap and a deep tissue massage. YES, there was "energy work" done at the beginning of the massage. I personally like it. If you don't, have the huevos to tell your therapist to skip it and go straight to the massage! My therapist was Megan, who also works at the spa as a flying trapeze instructor (a seasonal tuition course that ends at the end of the month). Although she was small in stature, she gave me enough pressure to release some deep seated mother-in-law-related-stress. (I'm joking of course! My mother-in-law, though we've had our differences, it a pretty spectacular woman!) Seriously, though, the massage room had a large window and the room was filled with natural light. Did I mention the steam room? Probably not. Why? Because steamin' is for vegetables, son! I did actually go in for a minute, but there was enough outside humidity this day . Someone had complained about the lockers. The lockers are NOT small, but there are built in compartments within the lockers that made stuffing in my fashionable duffel bag a little difficult. No whoop. They probably would have given me a second locker if I had asked. So tangent again..rrrriiiiggght..... the mud wrap therapist, Amy was SUPER cool. She politely smeared mud all over me and even came to my rescue to get it off those hard reach places as I tried to rinse. Afterwards, I was massaged lightly with a lovely smelling oil. I left the room feeling energized, yet relaxed. If I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't do the mud wrap. Amy was GREAT, but I could have smeared mud all over myself at Burning Man last year and felt about the same way. As for the food, it was good, not spectacular. This day there was a salad bar with assorted (fresh) toppings of all sorts. That part was great. Annie's Natural salad dressings are delish! There was a fish entree (a little on the oily side--- not exactly wellness food) and a veggie pizza on what appeared to be some kind of grainy healthy-type crust. The soup was a veggie soup and good, but I would have liked to see something a little more jazzy... and maybe on other days, they have more jazzy soups. This is maybe one area where I feel this place could improve slightly. I am, however, not going to drop a star in rating because I chose, voluntarily to eat greasy fish (to get a good sampling for you Yelpers out there) instead of a large healthy salad. In summary, this is NOT Lake Austin, nor are they trying to be. It's more part hippie, part executive retreat, and totally fabulous! 5 Stars and 2 thumbs up!
