Opened since 2006, the Tschuggen Bergoase is located 1,800 meters above sea level and is the centerpiece of the hotel's leisure activities. Guests enter the 5,000-square-meter spa, designed by famed architect Mario Botto, through a glass bridge, where natural light-filled interiors decorated with touches of granite, maple, and glass provide a modern, minimalist feel. Guests can enjoy such amenities as an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, boutique, two spa suites, a hair salon, and fitness center, spread throughout the complex's four floors.

In the 12 treatment rooms, guests can enjoy a variety of beauty, wellness, and medical offerings such as the Tschuggen Beauty Bath, a 20-minute soak in a mixture of honey, milk, and salt. Following services, guests can warm up fireside in the relaxation area or on one of the four sun terraces.

There's something magical about this spa. I'm not sure if the pictures do it justice as it's one of the most fantastic places I've ever been - in terms of glorious surroundings and architectural interest. The view from our suite was literally breathtaking. It felt like we were part of the mountains. We were there in the summer, so no snow but plenty of hiking in the surrounding mountains - and taking the private tram to the top of the mountain made us feel incredibly spoiled!I agree with other review that there were a surprising number of children in the pools but did notice that when I visited during the day, there were very few (they seem to come in after their day time activities). The spa therapy rooms themselves are stunning (and housed inside the cathedral like glass towers...every attention to detail is given. A very knowledgeable and talented staff was on hand at all times...oh, and the food was terrific. The only thing I'd mention is that we drove up the hill and I understand taking a train is a much easier/quicker option.

Being immersed in the spa world for a living sets the bar quite high in all aspects, from service to decor to ambiance. Bergoase is simply perfection incarnate.Nestled in the crook of the mountain, its towering window peaks (to resemble pine trees) herald what is to come within the spa. A friendly welcoming staff guide you seamlessly from treatment to the water world to the saunas.I loved that the treatment rooms were sub terranean and cocooning yet some of them have those very pine peaks so the ceiling height soars well over 10-15 meters and is bathed in natural sunlight. While there, I indulged in 3 different types of massage and loved every one of them for different reasons. I experienced 3 different therapists (as did my husband) so we truly experienced a complete head to toe transformation, so to speak. My husband was transported by his stone massage the last day we were there and I had a difficult time getting him to leave the lounge chair in the private relaxation area. The right amount of pressure was used on sore muscles from skiing all day and then followed by the water treatments described below truly turned me into a gelatinous blob. The water world was truly spectacular with all its different pools, jets, seated massage underwater bench, outdoor cascades, hot/cold water baths, etc. My only complaint was the overwhelming presence of children in the adult water area (and I am a mother to small children). I strongly believed that a designated time should be alloted for their swimming pleasure but being so relaxed did not prompt me to utter a word to the staff. I did find out subsequently that a large family group was there at the same time and there were more children/babies than usual.I wish I could say more about the fitness area but I used the great outdoors for my work outs. We were greeted by a heavy snowfall the night we arrived and a glorious sunny day the day after to ski the peaks of Arosa. The hotel was just as inviting as the spa and the staff just as welcoming and serviceable. It was simply a perfect weekend destination from NYC and the access from Zurich quite easy by train. This is still an unknown entity for most Americans but is well worth the effort and trip. We both look forward to returning for a longer visit, maybe with the children?ALM, NYC
