You don't realize how spacious this place really is until you head on in for a treatment. I had a wonderful massage and the therapist was very knowledgeable and even provided a thai massage experience so I could see what that was about. The staff is friendly and courteous. The waiting area intimate and includes fancy trail mix and spa cucumber water. I have been going here for several years now and always had a great experience. Plus you just can't beat being blocks from boutique shopping in Old Town. JLemon

Having been a patron of The Fountains Day Spa for over 20 years, I thought it time to express my gratitude for all they have done for me and to share my truly amazing experiences. I have probably had most of their treatments, from facials of all types to body wraps, hot-stones, deep-tissue massages, reflexology, aromatherapy and everything else they offer. Honestly, I have never had a bad experience with any of them. Immediately upon entering the Fountains, I feel a calm come over me. The whole atmosphere is conducive to comfort and relaxation and the friendliness of the staff makes me feel right at home. And the professionalism of the therapists makes me feel confident in their knowledge and ability. I recently suffered from a herniated disc in my neck and after many medications, it was the message I received there that made the biggest difference in my healing. The therapist truly knew what she was doing. As a resident of Old Town for nearly 30 years, I know there are many spas around this area, but there really is none better than The Fountains.

Before heading back to the world of teaching high school I needed a way to de-stress and relax. This was by far the best massage I have ever received! I have been lifting weights and the muscles in my shoulders and upper back have been tight. After a deep tissue massage not only were all my troubled spots worked out but I was also left in a complete state of relaxation. The therapists are very skilled and the entire experience was exactly what I needed.

After spoiling me with diamond studs, a long stroll through Old Town and a home cooked meal, my husband surprised me with a couples massage at the Fountains Day Spa! We each experienced a 50 minute Swedish Massage and loved every second of it! The masseuse's knowledge and expertise were evident in her attention to technique and thoroughness. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxing and I was able to drift into a place of peace and serenity. I have no doubt my husband and I will return!

Fountains is the best! My husband bought me a gift card six years ago, and now it is my favorite place to go. I have been to other spas in Alexandria (Sugar House, Massage Envy) for bridal showers and such, but again and again I come back to Fountains. For several years I managed depression related to infertility. My husband managed herniated disk pain. Fountains therapists were incredibly compassionate, knowledgeable and professional to both of us during those times. (We also enjoyed their couples massage/ lesson one Valentines Day!) The atmosphere is simple; warm and lovely without being pretentious, and their staff is consistently excellent. We have had different therapists over the years. Amanda is my current masseuse. Initially I thought she was too gentle, but she gradually worked deeper and deeper, and I left feeling great and with a lot of respect for her patient and persistent expertise! The receptionists go above and beyond the call of duty, looking up my history to see if I still have part of an (Ancient!) gift card left, and even moving my car when I made a poor choice of parking spot! If you want to find a "Cheers' spa, where "everybody knows your name and their always glad you came," Fountains is a great choice.

I went in for a deep tissue/sports massage for my legs. I did my best to try and explain where the problem spots were but didn't feel like I communicated it adequately. I essentially said, "once you start, you should feel it". And she did. I could tell immediately by the attention she gave trouble areas she knew what to look for and how to make the muscle relax. I will definitely be going back again...and again.

I came to fountains with sore muscles due to working out a few days ago hoping to loosen up and relax.when i arrived, I was greeted with a smile by the front desk and sipped on cucumber water while my appointment time arrived. Then i met Jennifer who promptly guided me upstairs where i had my 80 minute combination massage. It was glorious! the atmosphere was divine and comforting. She was able to work on my troubled areas with the perfect amount of pressure. I highly recommend Jennifer! I left feeling like a new person. I will come back

Although parking is only available on street, I managed a spot right in front of the spa. Upon entering the receptionist greeted me warmly, provided forms for me to complete and took my coat. Right on time Amanda took me upstairs for my combo massage. I have permanent jewelery around my neck and waist which she expertly worked around. During the massage, Amanda used focused pressure to release the knots around my shoulder blades and neck. The massage bed was warm and lighting very relaxing. Between my combo massage and facial Amanda passed on the permenant jewelry situation to Audrey, my facial aesthecian who had a plan to wrap it in a towel during the galvanized current portion of my facial. As noted in other reviews, they do no use steam but the products and tools did a wonderful job of cleaning and softening my skin. Finally the reflexology treatment……I experienced a bit of pain during the pressure on one of the meridians on both feet which turned out to be the lungs area. I tolerated the pain as I knew that working that area would release the congestion I had been living with for the last 2 months. This is the next day and my congestion is greatly reduced with no meds.

I was able to get a short term appointment for a badly needed swedish massage. There was none of the sitting around and waiting, as I was whisked directly to the treatment room within 2 minutes of arriving, and there received the best massage of my life. Jonanthan, my therapist, really listened about my trouble areas, and spent extra time and attention where it was most needed. He has incredibly strong hands! My only regret is that I didn't book a longer treatment. Could have stayed there all day!

I have been to many spas in my life (including many 5 star spas) and I have to say this was the best spa experience I have ever had. From the moment I came into the spa I felt very relaxed. The front desk staff were very accommodating and welcoming. I received a combo massage which was exactly what my sore body needed. I also received a hand and foot scrub, which left my skin feeling fresh and soft. Overall, I would recommend this spa, without any hesitation, to everyone!

I have been going to Frances to get my eyebrows waxed for years, as well as for facials. As much as I dread the "quick" pain of the wax, he always make its comfortable & is so personable & fun to talk to. Most importantly, he listens to what I want & gives great advice. I have been going to Fountains for years now. It's my #1 spot for massages and facials. I usually have pretty clear skin, but have had some problems lately. I have been extremely stressed out and broke out all over my cheeks and around my chin. So, I booked a microdermabrasion appointment with Francis (who is awesome) and continued with a couple of follow-up facial appointments. My face has finally calmed down! The texture is completely different - thank God! He's a miracle worker! Also, the product line they use - Guinot - is fabulous. My sister visited for Thanksgiving for about a week and was using my Guinot Hydra Tendre cream cleanser. She said that the dry patch on her forehead was completely gone. This dry patch had been a consistent issue for her. She even had a dermatology appointment scheduled for the following week! After using my products, she didn't have to go anymore. To sum it up, I go to Fountains for a few reasons: (1) Quality, friendly, knowledgeable staff; (2) Great products; (3) Great discounts (if you sign up for their email specials). FA-BU-LOUS!

Recently visited this spa with my daughter who was home on a college break and was wowed with the facial I got from Francis! He is a true artist when it comes to making the most of the experience!! the products they use are a French brand called Guinot and they are amazing products!! The facial I got was a 90 minute hydrodermie (?spelling), I was impressed with how intensive the work was for this type of service. He really worked on every aspect of my face, pores, blemishes, nutrients, moisturizers, and then more of all the above. The experience was A+++ and well worth every penny! I highly recommend this spa and, especially Francis! My daughter had a 60 min facial and really liked her technician as well, Her name was Shannon, In any case, you can't go wrong here!!

After several months of "spa deprivation" (due to killer work schedules), we were finally able to book into the Fountains Day Spa for a Labor Day | Wedding Anniversary treat! Amanda provided an absolutely amazing massage therapy treatment for me -- equal to the services of a neuro-muscular specialist!! She has an intuitive healing touch and is a real find for the spa. Following the massage, Angela (a truly angelic being) gave me an outstanding Hydradermie Ultra facial, which was a wonderful finish to the morning of beauty! Thank you, Fountains and Suzanne for the exceptionally talented staff (and for Savannah, who keeps things organized at the front desk). I had a massage with Jonathan after returning from a hectic 2 week vacation that I knew was going to leave me exhausted. I was looking forward to the massage and Jonathan did not disappoint. I had more knots in my shoulders (and apparently my legs) then I realized and he did an amazing job working as many of them out as possible. I came to the fountains day spa for my first ever body wrap two weeks ago. Upon entering, I was greeted immediately by the front desk. The receptionist did a great job of making me feel welcomed, offering some cucumber infused water and making small talk with me. After signing in, Amanda welcomed me and led me upstairs to the room. I had heard how great body wraps were for the skin and I felt that mine was tired, dry, and dull. I knew it would be a great way to get my skin glowing after some time at the beach and pool. As soon as I got in the room, she explained the procedure and left me to get ready. When she re-entered the room, she got to work. I was shocked at the results. My skin remained totally moisturized for the next 5 days! Hahaha I didnt put a single drop of lotion on my knees or elbows ( my most commonly extremely dry areas). I definitely thought Amanda did a great job making me feel comfortable during the procedure, the room itself was very calming ( decor, music, and lighting)!

They have a very strict policy. I was very late. So, I got 20 min of facial instead of one hour. I understand I was late... However, I was a new customer and I did not really know their so strict policy. I was very surprised when I was required to pay $100 for 20 min ( this is the price for one hour which I reserved but did not get). I did not feel like paying $100 for 20 min. Did you? After very long conversation, I was allowed to pay $ 57 as for mini facial-30 min with one condition -- me never return again...It hurt me also. Anyway, I paid and even left very nice tip. Who was right or who was wrong, it depends on personal judgment. But I felt very upset and stressful. I did not feel relaxed at all, and, on the next day, my face had a rash.

Julia was over 30 minutes late to her appointment; we told her when she made the appt. that the esthetician had an appt. directly after her, which is why her hour-long facial was shortened. The esthetician also gave her the mask that is used in during facial to take home, since she was unable to receive it during her session. Julia was also told the cancellation policy on the phone when booking by Suzanne, the owner. Which is a 24-hour cancellation policy, much like many other spas in Old Town, she had no issue with the policy at that time. She then signed a form that stated that she understood our cancellation policy. Only after her facial did she begin to argue for 40 minutes refusing to pay the full price for the service that she had scheduled. We explained that we could have booked another appointment in that hour, that she had reserved. Our employees work on commission. We do not penalize customer for another client's tardiness. This would be unfair for those clients who show up for the schedule appointment on time. After bullying our receptionist in person and having her husband bully her by phone, the receptionist called the owner to explain how uncomfortable and stressful the situation had become. The owner requested the receptionist charge for a mini-facial, and asked that she not return, since she had upset one of our employees so much. We feel that it is unacceptable to have a small business block out a period of time for someone who has no consideration for those who provide the service. As far as this review is concerned we are unsure what she is complaining about, the fact that she was late, that she paid for the shortened treatment that she received, or that we asked her not to come back?

I love this spa from the moment I call to make my appointment to paying the bill (well I don't love paying the bill but you get what I mean). The staff is so attentive and nice they make me feel like a celebrity. I love getting massages there, the hot stone massage is so luxurious! I never thought I would get a facial until someone gave me a gift certificate for one and now I know what I've been missing. My skin never looked to good and I wouldn't even say that I have problematic skin, my skin is pretty average with breakouts here and there. Anyways long story short, I love love love this spa. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

The staff and products at The Fountains Day Spa in Alexandria are heavenly! Suzanne give the best, most healing facials I have ever had. I came to Fountains with some serious facial irritations and Suzanne was able to totally clear and heal my face. The Guinot products were exactly what I have been looking for and have helped my skin look healthy, clean and vibrant. Suzanne (and all her staff) are experts in their field. They are also very encouraging, helpful, and thoughtful. They approach each person holistically and provide helpful insight and advice. They also have helpful discounts on services and products during off-days or off-hours, which is helpful for clients who want the most professional and high-quality experience possible, but also want a helpful price in these economic times. I am writing to thank everyone who has written previous reviews...My spa treatments today were FANTASTIC...I walked in for my appointment and was greeted by two very friendly ladies...Then I met Edith the massage therapist...I have to say this was the best massage I have had...I then went with Shannon for my facial...I have never had a facial and this was perfect..She helped ease my worries and there was no STEAM...that is perfect in my book...Shannon was not at all pushy about selling products and she assisted me with what to do with my problem areas...I will be leaving Alexandria in abotu 2 weeks to go back to Texas, but I will definetly be back when I visit in July! As a frequent spa consumer, Fountains Day Spa was one of the best facilities in the Northern VA area. The staff was wonderful, knowledgable, and extremely professional. I have been visiting Fountains for 6 months now and have never felt better. I visit the spa once a month for a deep tissue massage and occassionally add on hot stones. Lisa, the therapist, is incredible with the pressure she uses and the care she takes in my aches. As an athlete herself she is able to offer her advice concerning injuries and pain that I feel in my hamstrings. The spa is incredibly soothing and relaxing with nice music, candles and a gentle scent of essential oils.

I just moved to this area and have been trying spas everywhere in the VA and DC area and I FINALLY found what I was looking for at Fountains . When I walked in the door I was immediatly greeted and was offered refreshments etc. My treatments that day were a facial and an eyebrow wax. It was the most incredible and relaxing facial I have had to date. The candles burning, the music and the most flavorful aroma ever added that special touch which helped me to relax even more. I went into Fountains with eyebrows looking like Hailey's Comet and came out of there with eyebrows looking sleek as can be. Also, I must say that the products they use there amazing and continuously hydrate my skin. I also appreciated the quaint and cozy feel that you get at Fountains. As mentioned earlier, everyone there is so nice and friendly I feel like I've been a customer for years, when really it's only been several months.

Although I live near Philadelphia, I drive 125 miles each way just for my monthly facials at The Fountains. The payoff? My skin looks fantastic, I feel totally relaxed, I am able to buy products that prolong the look until my next visit--plus I could claim to be at least 10 years younger than I really am and still be believed. The staff at The Fountains are friendly, professional, and superbly trained. I've enjoyed facials, body treatments, massages, pedicures....the works--but the facials are what really makes the 5 hours of driving worth it.

I have had several wonderful experiences at the Fountains Day Spa. Suzanne, the owner, is truly a spiritual healer and I feel relaxed just being around her. it is a friendly and informal atmosphere. All the therapists are professional and excellent (the ones I've had) in their field. Several of my colleagues at work are also regulars and think it has the best facials and massages in the area..

I've been to The Fountains Day Spa dozens of times over the past few years, and every single visit has been an exquisite experience. I'm especially addicted to this Spa's facials, but I've experienced many of their other treatments, as well. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing, and every one on the staff is warm and friendly. I've been to other Spas, especially when I'm traveling, but I've never found one that I'd recommend as highly as this one.

First, what I liked - Massage therapist and facialist were Excellent, and I really like their facial (the one thing that might bring me back). Everyone was very nice and friendly, and my "spa lunch" chicken ceasar salad was good. Now for the bad - the spa is in an old townhouse that I don't think is suited for a spa. First, the only changing room is the bathroom, and they don't have lockers or locker room of any kind - I had to schlep my bag. The upstairs treatment room was fine. However, the facial, manicure and pedi were downstairs, and I had to walk through the lobby, in view of the street, to get there! Made me a bit uncomfortable. The building and fittings look a bit old and shabby. The pedicure chair was very uncomfortable, non adjustable, just not up to snuff with day spas in this area. The foot tubs were just retail plastic tubs set into a melamine box! And they didn't work right! And it's no cheaper! The cheaper nail places have better equipment. Lastly, this nail technician uses tools just sitting in barbasol, and they are dull! That's when she got my attention! I didn't like the nail services at all.
