Rather than booking individual treatments, the 14,500-square-foot spa offers Time Rituals, performed in stages known as: Welcome, Purify, Nurture, Balance, and Bliss. Guests begin their visit by taking advantage the spa's men's and women's Heat Experiences facilities before beginning their Time Ritual. They may spend time in the aromatherapy-infused crystal steam room (featuring delicately-lit amethyst) and the vitality pool (where guests lie in hot mineral water on a suspended cushion of air while being gently massaged by hydrotherapy jets). They may then rinse off in the lifestyle showers. After enjoying the water treatments, guests await their services in the Oriental Tea Lounge, where they can read, relax, or meditate.

At the start of their Time Ritual, spa-goers receive a soothing foot bath during which the therapist chooses the appropriate aromatherapy oils, based on the individual needs and goals of each person. Guests then begin an individualized treatment program. Signature treatments include Ayurvedic holistic body treatments to relieve tension and restore vitality, Balinese synchronized massage to assist in mental and spiritual bliss and Basalt stone therapy to heal and relax tense muscles. At the end of their time at the spa, guests can retreat to the separate men's and women's relaxation lounges to savor the spa's signature teas and enjoy the aroma of essential oils and the sound of therapeutic music before re-entering the outside world.

Additional spa facilities include:

  • The VIP Spa Suite

  • A naturally-lit, 75-foot lap pool (for half-day and full-day spa-goers)

  • Seven multifunctional rooms with personal shower facilities

  • A fitness center (for half-day and full-day spa-goers)

My friends and I took advantage of the Wellness Week special for an 80 minute massage ($200 with tax and tip as opposed to $400). They certainly give you an awesome welcome, with your shoes being whisked away, tea and warm towels and your own cosmetic case with toiletries prior to even going in the spa. The Vitality pool and steam room were great to do prior to your massage. The massage was phenomenal with a view of NYC. Afterwards, the relaxation room had comfy beds for relaxation. We really enjoyed ourselves and was thankful that even with the Wellness Week special, Mandarin didn't cheapen us of the full experience (as some spas do).

The Mandarin Oriental may be on the high end and pricey but I can assure you that the ambiance is on par with any exotic tropical paradise! I went to the spa as a result of a special Wellness Week promotion since I can't normally afford such a decadent outing and I must say that I wish I had booked the whole week! My massage was scheduled for 7pm so just as the sun was going down I enjoyed the stunning city views from the relaxing lounge....the only downfall was that some idiot interrupted my relaxation when he came in talking about business on his cell fone! Geez! Don't people have any manners anymore??? I asked him to take his conversation to the lockers and he apologized but people please have some consideration - there's a reason it's called a relaxation room! The overall atmosphere is serene and heavenly. My therapist Aaron was hands down the best I have ever experienced and followed up with recommendations and suggestions.....I will definitely make sure I ask for him the next time I am there! Yes, I will definitely treat myself to another special day at the Mandarin!

The atmosphere of this place is beautiful. When you step through the door you almost feel like a star (as I should). However, the treatment sessions are not as good as many of the other places I have frequent. In fact, it the massage I received as well as the facial, wasnt really relaxing at all. I felt like I was being handled by an unprofessional. All in all, if you are going in for something to kill time in between lunch sessions or such, its an okay place to go. Just dont expect an awesom experience here. Breathe and inhale on the atmosphere rather that of the service. Then and only then, you will not be disappointed.

The Therapeutic massage was weaker than weak - not at all therapeutic. The front desk staff defended it by saying that since it was Sunday the therapist may not have been "as sharp" as usual .... So, I'm just supposed to accept that my therapist was out drinking late on the previous night???? Such a weird experience. Please don't go to Mandarin.

From the minute you walk into the hotel, elegance surrounds you. We were warmly greeting by the spa and treated with such courtesy, I felt like royalty. The treatment rooms and overall ambiance of this spa were some of the best I've ever seen, and I loved the steam room! I got the Natural Facial and my skin was glowing afterwards! Knowledgeable therapists too! Highly recommend.

I've been to great spas all over the world and let me tell you this blew my mind. The ambiance is on par with any exotic island resort. Our treatment was scheduled for 7pm so just as the sun was going down we enjoyed the spectacular views from our heavenly perch in the lounge. The atmosphere was completely sumptuous. Never have I been in an Asian inspired spa that offered such luxury. The textures were rich and decadent. Even the ceiling in my treatment room was painted gold! The spa The facial I had was wonderful. Maybe I've other facials before that are on par but the overall experience was fantastic. Wonderful service . . . they even gave me moisturizer to wear the next couple of days with a high spf since I had been exfoiliated! This was an amazing urban spa experience & spa lovers must!
