This was my first time at a destination spa and I was nervous after reading some of these reviews. I'm glad I went. To clarify, the accommodations are aged but clean. I did not experience any cleanliness problems with my room or bathroom. I would recommend bringing a soft blanket as the sheets are definitely not a high thread count. The pool/hot tub area looked fine. They were filling up the outdoor pool during my stay so I was not able to use it. The hikes are great! I went on the intermediate and advanced level hikes. No one is left behind. Several staff members accompany each hike just for the purpose of accommodating those at different paces. I thought it worked out very well. I enjoyed the afternoon fitness classes- Stretch Boost, Fit Ball, Pilates, Strength Training. There were also daily yoga/meditation classes I did not take along with dancekinetics and nia. I do wish there was some more variety- some type of boxing fitness or zumba class would have been nice. I am an extremely picky eater and could not believe how good the food was. I was never hungry and didn't even need to sneak out for food. I was there for 5 days and lost 3-4 lbs. Spa treatments are okay, not the best but not bad either.

The good and the bad...

I was at New Life Spa for 11 days in July 2010. Although I really enjoyed the people and even some of the food, and there were some beautiful hikes, I had some problems with the rundown facilities and the inability of the hiking staff to break down the hiking into levels that made more sense for some of the hikers (such as myself and a few of my companions). They really need to either find a new facility or insist that the current one be updated because having pools closed and rooms with mildew, etc is a big turn off even when you know that you are getting a bargain price. Also, there are some people that are capable of doing intermediate level hikes but not at the fast pace that is required to return in time for the early shift eating lunch. If they added a separate group of "slower intermediates" with a van or car that departed the trail 1/2 hour later (and there would still be plenty of time to eat lunch), I would be more happy about the prospect of returning. I think they do a pretty good job with the food and the range of activities offered. If I hear that they've addressed the facility problems and expanded the range of hiking level groups available, I would go back again.

I visited New Life in July and it was a quintessenial New England summer getaway. New friends, fresh air, gourmet food with no sugar and no salt. The setting is beautful and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I particularly enjoyed the other program participants, all genders, ages and professions. A very diverse group of interesting, intelligent and fun people. Also really enjoyed the small town 4th of July celebration. I hope to return next summer. Thanks Jimmy & team.

I left New Life last week after an 11 night stay. This vacation was such a good thing I did for myself. Getting up and hiking every morning, eating delicious healthy food, incredible massages. I am already booking my trip back for 2011. The hotel is a ski hotel, but it really is not as bad as some of these reviews suggest. Nothing in Killington seems to be very nice. It is a run down ski town that has seen its day...but New Life is a bright shining star. Beautiful hikes, great people who work there, great massages. It is very affordable. It is more than I expected and for the price, you can't beat it. I am a fan of New Life and I love it! Jimmy LeSage is great!

My friends and I were so looking forward to this trip during mid august. Mainly for the New Life Hiking Spa. Well we couldn't get past the accommodations. When we walked into the lobby, there was an odor and it was very dark. We checked in and went up to the room. My room looked clean. There was a portable air conditioner with a hose going out the window. I could not shut it off. there was a plush terry robe folded nicely on the bed, but when I picked it up it was damp, yuk!! The hallways and carpets were dark and dirty. The stairway was the same.T he outdoor pool was closed and very run down. We were told by the manager that the pool has been closed for two years and they do not plan on fixing it. The indoor pool and area was dirty. The hot tub looked so bad, it had a foamy film floating on top. We finally met with New Life and they made no apologies. I was so looking forward to a good health regime of diet and exercising and then relaxing by the pool after. I feel their web site is false advertising. I'm sure they have a good program, but we could not get past the dirty accommodations. We had to leave that same day.

I decided I need to do something to get on the right track with weight loss and exercise, and went to New Life for the 11 night weight loss retreat. Since I was not used to hiking I was worried I would not be able to do it. The hiking guides were wonderful - modified 5 mile walks to 3 when necessary. Food was delicious. Loved the pool aerobics, yoga, zumba and circuit training. I lost 13 pounds while I was there and am down a total of 38 pounds since June following New Life's advise of eating whole foods and exercising. It is a great place to go if you are going alone. I met so many wonderful people. The room was very pretty and comfortable. The staff really seems to care about the visitors who come there. I hope to return next year. I would highly recommend New Life to anyone looking to make a change in their lives for the better.

If you are looking for a down to earth, transformative experience that will help you get in shape, learn how to make healthy choices, and help you feel 100% better than you do today, then, this is your spot! Glitzy it is not - it is not the spa for those looking for elegant accommodations, dozens of classes or a large variety of pampering services. But if you want to hike in the pristine mountains of Vermont, (without having to camp!) enjoy truly delicious healthy meals, try out a limited number of fitness classes then this is for spot for you. The staff are dedicated, professional and encouraging. Although I had no experience mountain hiking, was never made to feel badly about bringing up the rear on our daily hikes. When I left after a 7 day stay, I left trimmer and stronger and determined to bring some of the ways of healthy living home with me. Some might feel that the hotel is a little shabby - it is not new, but it is clean, very serviceable and the staff helpful. And, the price is pretty unbeatable. I will definately be going back.

I just returned from 6 days at New Life and feel terrific. I liked the pre-breakfast stretch and chi-gong classes and the hikes that offered a real range of challenge. The afternoon fitness classes, like yoga, strength training and water aerobics gave me a chance to try out some exercise formats- like pilates and NIA- that I had never experienced. The hike leaders were informative, friendly and encouraging. The exercise leaders (in some cases, the same staff members) seemed well versed in whatever they were teaching. There are limited spa services- more health oriented than beauty treatments, for sure. The three that I received were relaxing and therapeutic. Many comments have been made about the accommodations. I found them to be fine- not posh, but adequate. It is a ski resort in the winter, and has the rustic ambience you would expect as such. I was on the first floor so had a room with a little terrace, nice for drying my swim suit after water aerobics! I met lots of friendly fellow hikers/health seekers. Many singles, some couples and some family groups. The family style seating at meals ensured that I met a variety of guests.

This was a wonderful experience for me but it isn't for everyone. The hotel is somewhat ramshackle but the fitness facilities were more than adequate with a heavy emphasis on staff guided activities. There are three fitness levels for hiking, multiple afternoon group exercise (eg Fitball, Strength, Nia and Zumba, Yoga, Meditation, Spin, QiQuong, Tai Chi etc.), a group warm up every morn, delicious and health-conscious sit down meals, alternative activity to hiking such as lap swimming (yes, they have a fully operational indoor pool and hot tub) or healthy cooking and grocery shopping and presentations on fitness or related topics every eve. A free personal service every three days with a variety of massages and facials is included. Most everything is planned as a social activity and you are motivated to push yourself in the social situation but there is no boot camp atmosphere. I lost 6 lbs. in two weeks due to activity and average 1600 cal. healthy diet. All fitness levels, age groups were there and couples and solos with mostly women participants. The hotel is not luxurious with lots of rennovation needed but that was ok because the $$ is more than reasonable and I was there to begin a program of getting back in shape.

My sister is a recent cancer survivor, I asked Jimmy LeSage 3 months ago..Will she be alright on this program. he said yes. When we got this late July2010 to that dreadful hotel with the pool caved in and filth & stench in the lobby & hallways awful!!! He even offered us a free nite...which I would not take because of filth. I was sooooo disappointed, because I knew Jimmy from 30 yrs. back when he was in Stratton Mtn. He had a great program!!! but the accommodations are horrendous too bad for him

I've visited New Life several times and always have a great experience! This year was no exception. Jimmy LeSage and his staff do a great job. There's something for everyone from beginners to experienced hikers and numerous classes focused on health and wellness. The hotel is a rustic ski lodge, which is the perfect setting for a spa vacation in Vermont. And, to top it off, it is all-inclusive and affordable. I have recommended New Life to many people. It's a relaxing, laid-back experience...and a great place to meet interesting people who have something in common - their health.

I am not sure why there are so many great reviews about this spa as it is definitely not as described. Hotel is run down, program is not a real spa program and the hiking program involves a hike of approximately 2 hours hiking time each day. The hikes were nice but definitely not enough to classify the program as a hiking program. The food was good but much higher in calories than advertised. I actually gained weight the 6 days I was there eating only the food provided by the program. When wait staff employed by the program were asked the calories count of food choices offered they did not know how many calories were in the various offerings.

I have been to New Life twice, once in the early 80's then in 2006. The facilities and options have changed but it is still run by the same people who do a fantastic job of giving you variety and the hiking experiences are fabulous. There are different levels so you can do what you think you can handle. You could enjoy this experience with any type of companion, lover, friend, sister, daughter etc. But the really nice thing is that you can go alone and still have a fantastic experience. It is very relaxed and the food is delicious. I can't wait to go again.
