    Located in St. Louis, Missouri, The Face and the Body Day and Medical Spa is a full-service spa and salon offering medical services in a spalike setting. The expansive 11,000-square-foot spa has six aesthetics rooms, one wet room, seven massage rooms, and two medical spa treatment rooms as well as nail stations, pedicure thrones, and hair stations. Clients walk through the salon to get to the spa area, featuring a large waterfall. Treatments are performed in private spa rooms and the Oasis Room is an ideal space for events such as weddings, corporate retreats, and girls' nights out.

    The spa wants to help clients nurture a healthy balance in mind, body, and spirit by offering treatments inspired by ancient cultures from around the world, with an emphasis on Asian-inspired techniques and services. Spa services include massages, facials, body wraps, and waxing services. The Signature Spa Facial, which is recommended for first-time clients, incorporates an extensive skin consultation, a massage of the face, neck, and shoulders, steam, extractions, exfoliation, and treatment mask, all meant to improve skin tone.

    At the salon clients can select from hair design services, nail care, and makeup application and instruction. Medical offerings such as clinical facials, medical microdermabrasion, IPL (intense pulsed light) photofacials, VISIA(r) computerized skin analysis, laser hair removal, Botox&#174, and Juvéderm&#8482 are also available. Bridal services are offered, as are a variety of packages tailored to men, women, and teens.

    The spa has two other locations in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

I was looking forward to a morning of pampering but was very disappointed. I had a spa pedicure and express manicure and didn't ever get that spa feel. Also, the desk staff was rude. When I booked the appointment, I explained that I had a Spafinder gift certificate and asked if I needed to do anything. They said to just bring it. When I went to check out the receptionist kept showing me how I was supposed to validate the certificate or something. Over and over again she belabored what I did "wrong", even though I was told to just bring the certificate. Not worth the frustration to argue with her about who is right. Services are mediocre at best.

This spa provides great service; however, with the newer employees the services are not as good as the regulars. The atmosphere while receiving the services is wonderful, but the waiting area is small. I recommend this location for the massages and wraps, but if you want a place where you can relax before and after your service(s), I would suggest finding another place.

I treated my niece to her first spa experience on her 16th birthday and although she was very pleased, I thought it was lacking in certain areas. The spa experience between services could be more relaxing and more services offered. My experience at other spas includes a large area to relax and unwind with an array of beverages to select from including teas, water and juice. At the end of the treatment when she was receiving her pedicure and manicure it seemed as if the spa experience was over. I would not suggest the receiving those services from this spa because it was an amateur job at best. However, the massage therapist provided excellent service while she was in the room with my neice and before we left a makeup tech. offered to do a mini makeover.

Richard Walters, M.D., is board certified in dermatology and is the spa's medical director. Dr. Walters graduated from the Washington University/Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri and also has a private solo dermatology practice in Webster Groves, Missouri.

Also on staff are estheticians, registered nurses, a laser specialist, licensed massage therapists, hair stylists and nail technicians.
