Turkey's only destination spa, Richmond Nua is located on the shores of Lake Sapanca in northwestern Turkey. The 193,997-square-foot (18,023 square meters) property's six-story main building houses most 131 rooms and suites as well as a full-service spa and three restaurants serving a cornucopia of cuisines. The 29,063-square-foot (2,700 square meters) spa includes a broad selection of baths and wet areas, including an ice grotto, a Rasul chamber, and, of course, a traditional Turkish hammam. No one younger than 14 allowed on-property.

Lovers of the outdoors should plan to stay here in summer. Open-air massage cabanas, a heated outdoor pool, and an al fresco poolside restaurant with lake views are among the resort's warm-weather facilities. Lake Sapanca is open from June to September for swimming and water sports. The summer season is also the best time for a day trip to Istanbul, Turkey's most populous city, which is approximately 75 minutes from the property by car.

Richmond Nua goes above and beyond!

What better way to recover from an overnight flight than to be whisked away to a destination spa? As a spa professional traveling on business to Istanbul, I had no idea what to expect when I arrived at Richmond Nua Wellness Spa in Sapanca, Turkey, but I'm going to raise the bar here for the travelers who follow me - I love this place! This is one of the Richmond Hotel chain's 5 locations, and the only one that is a wellness spa. The six-story, 131 guest room location is ideally situated on the south side of Lake Sapanca, about 1 1/2 hours outside of Istanbul. The staff is terrific all round, and the accommodations are top notch. The 26,000 square foot spa has 16 massage and body treatment rooms, 3 facial rooms, a salon, a wellness center, and a wet amenity area on two levels with more features that I can count, including a laconium, tepidarium, aqua cave adventure shower, a loft sauna, at least 3 different kinds of steam room, and multiple relaxation areas, some of which are warm, and some room temperature. I spent 3 hours in the spa and tried every single wet amenity; enjoyed an excellent Aromatherapy Massage, and then found my favorite spot; a relaxation room featuring 6 heated water beds, each with it's own set of headphones playing rainforest-oriented nature sounds. Bliss for the jet-lagged body, I could have spent the night right there. Although everything that I ate during my stay was delicious and healthy, the hotel also offers a specific Wellness Menu, and numerous detoxification and wellness programs for those lucky enough to stay more than 1 day. If you're just visiting for a day, you can enjoy healthy teas and juices available from the Vitamin Bar at Spa Reception. Richmond Nua is well-designed to accommodate business and conference groups as well as spa guests, and one of my favorite sights was watching a cluster of men who had been in meetings all day play in the wet area like kids who had been let out of school. What a great way to bond with co-

Definately worth the time...

I recently had the pleasure of spending time at this hotel / spa after a long flight to Istanbul. Set on a lake just outside Istanbul this facility was very well presented, staff very helpful and the spa itself was magnificent. 4 Steam rooms, 3 relaxation rooms...the list goes on. As its out of the city it is a perfect place for some quiet reflection with your partner. I had a couple of treatments during my short stay and the therapists were as good as any as I have experienced all over the world. I was pleasantly surprised by Turkey and will be ensuring I come back soon and this Spa will be on the top of my list.

A Delightful Hotel and Spa Experience

I have heard a lot about this Destination Spa and thought it worth a visit when I was travelling in Turkey recently. Wow! What a delightful surprise. It's in a beautiful setting on Lake Sapanca, to the East of Istanbul. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, the hotel is very spacious as it has floor to ceiling atrium with the rooms visible at all levels (reminded me of the Luxor in Las Vegas!), and the rooms are tastefully furnished in a contemporary style. The spa was fabulous. It has a large recepetion/lounge area with a food bar plus a lounge for guests waiting for treatments. The staff were really welcoming but not over-attentive - just let you get on with the relaxing experience - and the water facilities were very comprehensive. From the salt pool to the pressure jacuzzi to the myriad of beautifully tiled rooms with different temperature experiences. I had a couple of treatments - an aromatherapy massage and a marine algae body wrap/dry float - both excellent and delivered with discrete professionalism by the Bali trained therapists. The restaurant was very tasty (we ate in) and also sampled the outdoor pool which had lots of discrete treatment areas scattered across the lawn - and a small astroturf running strip beside the lake which was great for an early morning (not too strenuous) jog and stretch. There was also a fitness area in the spa. I had to leave for the UK the next day and was flying Easyjet out of Istanbuls second airport - Sabiha Gokcen - which, being on the Asian side, was very easy. Go Back? You bet!

Great spa experience near Istanbul

I had the chance to spend just one night here recently and completely fell in love. My husband and I visited after spending 5 days in Istanbul - both for work and pleasure. We thought a trip to a spa would be a great end to the adventure. It was...and we only wished we'd had a few more days to spend here. Both of us had two treatments each - and enjoyed them all. My massage was one of the best I've ever had - the massage couch itself played a huge role as it was almost like lying on a Tempur mattress. So comfortable! Everything here was top quality - the hot, cold & water treatments were probably the best I've ever seen. I especially LOVED the 2-level Finnish sauna which literally smelt of freshly cut wood and felt amazing coupled with the Ice Grotto. But there was also a salt jacuzzi and separate jet pool and four different steam experiences; great showers and relaxation rooms (the Tepidarium being my favourite). I didn't visit the fitness facilities - which is why I didn't rank them here - but they have Hypoxi equipment which is supposed to help you lose inches fast. And looked like something I'd like to try on a longer visit. Not only was the spa amazing, but the property sits on a beautiful lake and has gorgeous views from every room.

Starting from the very first moment you step in the hotel i can ensure everyone that you will enjoy every single second of the time you will spend in. The atmosphere inside and outside hits you at first sight and then hygiene and the fine quality furnutere in the rooms and the beatiful lake view will attract you too but wait until you go down to the spa facility. For the ones who is interested in this beatiful hotel i'd recommend them to check the 3D tour out on their website. There are 3 essential for me that i look for in a spa hotel ( in all kinds of hotels actually) 1 hygiene 2 qualified and gracious staff and good food. I get 3 of these in the pocket in this hotel and further more. I went there by a friend's recommendation and now i do the same to everyone. You wont regret and sattisfaction is guaranteed :)

Just spent time at this special place right out of Istanbul. My husband, daughter and I loved it. Many of the therapists have been trained in Bali and are absolutely excellent. I have rarely seen such a nice variety of hydro and thermal rooms. Warm, warmer, hot, hotter...and a fun aqua cave with mist, or rain (which includedd lightening and thunder). Most of all I liked the view from our room and from the restaurants. Looking at that beautiful lake relaxed us from the moment we arrived.

Rooms & Dining

All but five of the resort's 131 double accommodations are located in the main building. Main-building rooms range from 250-square-foot (23 square meters) superior rooms to 550-square-foot (51 square meters) senior suites. A few meters away, a garden building has a handful of superior-style accommodations.

The resort has three year-round restaurants. The lobby's airy, casual Aqua Restaurant/Bar, named for its abundant water elements, features a seasonal menu emphasizing Italian cuisine in summer. All-day international dining (including a buffet breakfast) is available at the Stone Restaurant. The most elegant option is the dinner-only Q Restaurant, serving Turkish cuisine nightly on the main building's top floor.

The summer-only Terra Nua restaurant serves Mediterranean specialties (buffet-style for lunch, a la carte for dinner) on a poolside terrace with lake views.
