About Allgäu Sonne Kur & Sporthotel
Sitting in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, near the Swiss border, this hotel boasts uninterrupted mountain views and lots of fresh air. It has 162 guest rooms, day spa services such as massages and facials, and more specialized detoxification treatments. The spa is known in particular for its Schroth Therapy programmme (which guests aren't obliged to follow), modeled after the teachings of Austrian doctor Johann Schroth, which consists of a restrictive diet, periods of fasting, and variations of exercise. (Kur is the German word for cure.) Guests can participate in outdoor activities year-round, including skiing, in season. The region offers historical sites and approximately 300 kilometers (186 miles) of hiking trails.

The Wellness Spa has 12 treatment rooms, a steam room, and a sauna with floor-to-ceiling windows and a countryside view. Other amenities include two heated swimming pools (one indoor, one outdoor), a 12-meter-long (39-foot) lap pool, and whirlpool. The adjacent fitness center offers personal training and classes in yoga, Pilates, and aerobics. An on-site salon provides hair and nail services, as well as permanent makeup application. The spa bar offers snacks and beverages. Day spa clients are welcome, as are children.
The spa specializes in extended-stay programmes designed to detoxify the body. The Schroth Therapy is a two- to three-week programme that combines a low-salt, vegan diet with prescribed amounts of exercise and rest. The same exercise regimen is used in the Full-Rice Therapy, which includes a diet of two rice dishes per day. Each participant meets with the supervising physician before, during, and after treatment. The physician also performs general health and nutrition consultations. Acupuncture, facials, body scrubs, herbal oil baths, and thalassotherapy are also offered. Massages include aromatherapy, deep tissue, hot stone, and hand/foot.
