Horrible Laser Hair Removal Service
By MariaL | January 20, 2013

Poor Quality Laser Hair Removal. I'm a light skinned person with dark hair who has had laser hair removal on multiple areas of my body, at multiple locations across the city so I know it's not because I'm a difficult candidate or something!! I bought a 6 session package to do a Brazilian Bikini laser as well as remove a few dark hairs that grow in on my chin. After the 6th session I saw very little difference except that the hair is a little finer in some areas but between my legs and all the way at the back it's still growing just as much as it ever did and all 5 hairs on my chin were STILL very much THERE. Are you kidding me? Most laser hair removal centers agree that 6-8 sessions are enough to completely remove all hair in an area if you are not a dark-skinned, light-haired individual who is a poor laser candidate so what gives? How is it that all that 6 sessions achieved was reduced thickness and slower growth? I decided to purchase an additional 3 sessions since they offered them at a pretty good discount and I assumed 3 more could only make the result better right? WRONG. Am now at 8 sessions completed out of 9 purchased and all the hair is exactly where it was before. I have one session left and will redeem it just out

I went to Confidence spa for a European deep cleansing Facialand was very pleased. The spa is clean and well organized. My technician Galina was awesome and was very helpful in suggesting how to clear up some breakouts I had (without pushing products on me). I will definitely come back!

I went to get my first wax today and my experience was amazing. I've worked in customer service my whole life so I'm very critical, but I have to say I received the greatest service I could possibly imagine.Aida was so damn sweet. She was very quick and made me feel super comfortable. She asked if I wanted some water because I was so nervous .I can't wait to go back for my second appointment with her. There was obviously pain, but I know if I went somewhere else I'd be in more pain because her energy was incredible.

Bad Experience

I called for a color appointment. I was told no appointment was necessary if I came in immediatelly. I came in 20 mins later and the place was almost completely empty (not a great sign for a weekend). Three stylists were just waiting around at the front desk. When I told them I had no appointment but I had called ahead, I received an eye roll from a stylist named "Shawn." Shawn and I proceeded to talk about my hair coloring. This woman was so impatient and rude to me that I walked out. I do not understand why someone who has no appointment would be rude to a customer willing to fork over $200 for highlights, plus tip.

OK manicure
By Fidelina | January 6, 2012

I had a manicure here a week ago. I believe the name of girl who did the mani is Rosanna (she was very quite the whole time - which is okay with me - so I'm not 100% sure that's her name). The manicure was okay - not good or great. There was a tiny cut to the skin on one of my nails while she was working my cuticles. I believe she didn't even see that I noticed it..she didn't bring it up. And the polish chipped some on one of the thumb nails about, two days later. I used a LifeBooker deal/voucher for the manicure so I didn't make a big deal of it when it chipped so quickly. But I'd guess that that is the same manicure they provide to clients that are paying full price - which is no good. If I go back to this business for a manicure, I will most probably ask for another person to attend to me.

Mediocre Brazilian wax

A lot of red flags while getting a wax. Using the same strip/paper for waxing, too aggressive, not enough technique, not caring whether the wax was too hot or if the customer was uncomfortable. An establishment should listen to their customers and make accomodations. I wouldn't come back here, mainly because I didn't feel valued as a customer

A great "ME DAY"

I had a wonderful "ME DAY" at confidence beauty salon & spa. Travelzoo was running a special for confidence spa. This was my first visit it wont be my last. Rufina did my facial, Kevin did my massage, and Christina did my Medi/Pedi. I walked out feeling like a million. Everyone was awesome. I was there at 9:30 to about 12:30 what a wonderful way to spend the morning. The decor is bright and pretty. Very relaxing. My only regret that I didn't purchase a gift voucher for a friend. Definitely try this place.

I LEFT WITH A BLEEDING VAGINA
By ameliam | January 6, 2011

I got a Brazilian bikini wax here and it was one of the most unpleasant experiences ever!! I have been getting this service for over 7 years and never had a disgusting experience like this. The woman didn't know what she was doing and was extremely un professional and unsanitary. I found it odd when I was told to disrobe completely from the waist down but not provided any hygienic panties (illegal). She starts my service, and her phone rings, not only did she answer her cell phone but decides to have a conversation with section 8 while she is waxing my vagina! I asked her two times if she could please get off the pnoe, and she ignored me and carried on her phone call. She finally gets off the phone and continues without changing he gloves (also illegal). It is clear from my experience that she was not trained properly because she was not doing it in the appropriate way which caused it to be much more painful. For a Brazilian bikini wax it is industry standard to use muslin strips, she used paper strips instead, this wouldn't have been that serious of an issue, but she repeatedly used the same paper strip. Instead of every time she applied wax using a new strip (like she is supposed to) she used the same dirty paper strip covered i

I made an appointment to visit this facility for a manicure and pedicure during my lunch hour. I arrived on time and was greet by a pleasant receptionist who accpeted my SpaFinder certficate, and explained how it could be used. Very comforting! I then met Shawn for my treatment. She was very pleasant and effecient, and took care of me in a professional manner. She took care of me and got me out quickly. This is what I need with my schedule, and I shall return again

Best Brazilian in NYC

Confidence Beauty Salon is by far the best place in NYC to get a Brazilian Wax. It was easy to get an appointment, I was taken immediately, and it was totally painless. Best part of it all is I found out they have this great deal, two waxes for $35. Not bad for NYC! You must check out Confidence Beauty Salon in the Gramercy Park Hotel. You won't regret it!

Pedicure, Massage and Ear Candling, Oh My!
By spalala7 | December 3, 2009

I was always curious about ear candling and finally found a place that was a SpaFinder partner, nearby in NYC that offered this service. The woman who performed my ear candling was very knowledgeable about the recommended reasons to get it and she was seasoned in performing this treatment. A candle is placed in the ear and the suction pulls the ear wax out! The treatment doesn't feel much like anything at all. Just, a candling is in your ear for a short while. I heard a lot of clicking sounds and such. When it was done, I could NOT believe what came out! My pedicure was enjoyable and first rate. My massage was pretty good but I had a male massage therapist for the first time and I came to realize afterward that I'm not so comfortable with that, as a female, but he was very interested in my feedback and making it a good experience for me.

Ouch! & Other Grievances
By MelissaK | August 5, 2009
1.00 out of 5 stars
Traditionally a spa is committed to providing a calming environment, and beauty, health and relaxation are not compromised. Confidence Spa is not a traditional establishment; it’s a nail salon with a few bland rooms and inexperienced (and probably unlicensed) waxing technicians. Last Friday, I made an appointment for a Brazilian bikini wax at Confidence Spa. I had called a day in advance to ask if anyone other than Lisa would be available for this service. My friends had not enjoyed their experience with Lisa, and I did not want risk having a bad incident just because I was desperate to get rid of my forest. When I arrived 5 minutes late to my appointment, I was informed that Lisa was the only one available. A bit hesitant, I finally gave in and followed Lisa to a room. After I had removed my pants and underwear, Lisa starts inspecting my area. She claimed I let the hair grow too much and would have to trim it. I’ve been waxed many times before by an excellent professional, and I’ve never had my hair trimmed before waxing. Lisa pulled out a pair of dingy scissors from a drawer and started snipping away. I asked if the scissors were sanitized, but never got a clear answer. She pulled out a wooden stick and started mixing the wax, applying huge amounts of lava hot wax to the side of my inner thighs. Placing the paper on the wax, she pulled aggressively. She placed the paper she had just used to remove my hair on my leg while she applied more wax in the same area. She then took the same piece of paper and placed it on the wax and pulled again and again. I asked her why she was using the same paper over again, and she claimed it was normal procedure. She must have used the same piece of paper on my private area over 10 times. I also noticed that instead of discarding the used paper or placing the paper on her work station, she would place the paper next to or on my legs. She applied baby powder, which I didn’t mind until I realized that she was not done removing all my hair. After over ten minutes, she asked me to lift my leg so she could work on my backside. I asked her to give me a minute because I was in so much pain. I lifted my legs, and she applied the wax directly on my butt hole. Yes- you read correctly. At first I thought it was a mistake, but she placed a paper (which was covered in hair from previous uses) in the area. When she was finally done, she followed me to the reception area to try to sell me spa products, but I ignored her and paid the service without leaving a tip. I waddled across the street to Duane Reade and purchased Charmin wet wipes and Neosporin. When I was able to find a bathroom, I removed my pants and realized my panties were stuck to the side of my thigh, and the inside of my underwear was covered in baby powder and pieces of wax. It was disgusting to say the least, and I was in pain for a few days. I had made the appointment using Life Booker, and supposedly users get 50% off services at participating spas. That means that my $20 wax is originally $40, which is difficult to believe considering that the same strip of paper was used repeatedly to remove my hair, and Lisa is obviously not an expert. I wouldn’t even think of getting a manicure and pedicure there, since hygiene does not seem to be a priority at Confidence Spa.

To those who have had an unfortunate experience at Confidence Beauty Salon and Spa. I am sorry for any inconvience that you have encountered. Lisa has been in the industry for over 15 years and she is a licensed technician whom on a daily basis has many requests. I am very surprised that this incident has happened to you and hope that it doesn't prevent you from posibly enjoing any of our other services and I can assure you it won't happen again this has never happened at our establishment before.

Excruciatingly Disasterous

I went to Confidence on June 30th for a bikini wax and boy did I regret it.As someone who has been waxing for over three years I am no stranger to the pain associated with the task. However, as Lisa began her work I quickly realized that something was terribly wrong. The pain was excruciating. She would wax over the same spot several times using the same wax (chocolate). I complained that the wax was very hot and she replied that it wasn't hot, that the area was just sensitive. As she was waxing she inundated the area with baby powder, supposedly because the wax was too sticky. She continuously applied baby powder throughout (which caused massive discharge for days). She used the same spot on a cloth multiple times which made the wax less effective. When using a different spot on the same cloth the previous wax and hair filled spot would attach itself to parts of my thigh which she roughly pull of when she waxed. She left a small patch of hair which I had to ask her to remove, and in the end there were many stray hairs left throughout. When I arrived home I washed more than five times and was unable to remove the wax. Upon closer inspection I realized that many hairs were broken not removed from the root. I developed a rash full of bumps due to burns. I developed scabs and the area was sore for days. When I first got home I had an ingrown hair which she had not removed; it has been three weeks and I have developed several ingrown hairs. I do not usually get ingrown hairs, but something in her process traumatized my skin. I would rather go back to a full grown bush than ever have to go back to this salon.
