Carnoustie Golf Hotel, an 85-room property located on Scotland's eastern coast, attracts serious golfers. It overlooks the Carnoustie Golf Club, a host of the British Open and one of the toughest courses in the world. (The area is steeped in the sport--golf was played at Carnoustie in 1587, a full 25 years before St. Andrews.) The hotel is also home to the Inspired Spa, which offers a range of spa treatments, including services tailored to golfers who have spent a day on the links. Visitors will find the area rich in historic attractions, and outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of things to keep them busy, such as fishing and hiking.

Golfers will be in heaven with the eponymous Carnoustie Golf Club right outside the hotel door. The 18-hole championship course has hosted a number of British Opens. Two other 18-hole golf courses are on site, including the Burnside Course and the Buddon Links. Carnoustie Golf Hotel guests get preferential tee times on all three courses and caddies can be arranged. Fitness buffs will want to head to the Leisure Club and check out the gym, heated swimming pool, and whirlpool. Wedding coordinators are on-hand to help guests plan weddings, and meeting space is available.

For non-golfing guests, the surrounding area provides plenty of diversions. The hotel can arrange tennis, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, and snorkelling outings. There are also historic castles and sights to explore, such as the nearby Arbroath Abbey, where Scottish independence was declared in 1320.
