There are so many eye creams on the market, and they come with all sorts of price tags. The variety available can really be overwhelming, especially if you’re not sure which type of eye cream is for you (if you’re under 30, is it too early to be using anti-aging eye creams? If you’re over 30, do anti-aging eye creams even work?!)
Here is an affordable and simple DIY eye cream recipe from healthy living blog HomemadeForElle.com. The main ingredient is the ever-versatile coconut oil, which provides rich and nourishing moisture for the skin. Why not make a few pots of this eye cream and share with your mum and girlfriends?
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp vitamin e oil
- 1 tbsp primrose oil
- 3-5 drops essential oils (frankincense, lavender, neroli and ylang ylang are great for wrinkles)
- Small storage container
Add 2 inches of water to a small saucepan over high heat. In a glass bowl, add coconut oil, vitamin e oil and primrose oil, and warm in water until melted. Remove from heat and add essential. Pour into small glass or container to store. The oil will stay at a liquid state until it has cooled below 76 degrees, but you can speed up the process by placing it in the refrigerator.
(If you live a warm climate, you can keep your homemade eye cream in the refrigerator to keep it solid. Otherwise, refrigeration is not necessary.)
Apply morning and night around the eye, being careful to avoid getting the homemade eye cream into the eye.
