History

The original Fairmont, located in San Francisco, opened its doors for the first time in 1907. It was the vision of Tessie and Virginia Fair. The hotel was purchased in 1945 by Benjamin H. Swig, who began building the portfolio in the United States. Meanwhile, the Canadian Pacific collection of hotels, which had been the vision of William Cornelius Van Horne in the late 1800's, was expanding throughout Canada, embarking upon major acquisitions throughout the 20th century. In the fall of 1999, Canadian Pacific Hotels acquired Fairmont Hotels creating Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. Today, the company is headquartered in Toronto, Canada and is the largest luxury hotel management company in North America.

Brand Philosophy

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts defines itself in terms of "the value we attach to lasting memories."

"Building upon our unique strengths and established reputation, we aim to become an unrivalled global presence. As we expand our brand worldwide, we remain committed to our core values by providing experiences that are authentically local, in hotels and resorts of unrivalled presence, with service that is truly engaging."

Willow Stream is a collection of luxury spas available at eight Fairmont hotels and resorts. At each Willow Stream spa, Fairmont has created unique, beautiful spaces that capture all of the natural elements of the surrounding area. Willow Stream was created to help guests find their energy and personal renewal. From the décor to each spa experience, everything was designed to ensure opportunities for guests to experience the intertwining of the land, the self, and a focus on self-fulfillment.

Logo/Name

The Willow Stream name and logo were designed to reflect their story which was inspired by nature's elements, the timeless landscape of each resort, and its integration with the human spirit.

The strength of the Willow tree is its deep roots, strong center, and branch flexibility. This represents the company's deeply rooted authenticity, belief in a healthy combination of the strength of the body and flexibility, as well as happiness of the spirit.

The Stream represents an energizing journey through life - bending, curving, and changing constantly in a peaceful but purposeful manner. The Stream forges a path around any obstacles on its way to its destination.

The four circles in the logo are ancient symbols representing earth, air, fire, and water. Earth represents the body and muscles - the core of confidence and purpose. Water represents the bloodstream - relationships with family and community. Fire represents body heat and skin - the public self and inner passion. The willow tree represents a fifth element:wood. Wood is the food - the nourishment of the body and mind. The balance of these five elements is nature's equilibrium.
