For more than 30 years, Green Mountain at Fox Run has developed and refined a
life-changing weight loss and healthy lifestyle program for women. More than a spa or a place for pampering, Green Mountain offers a comprehensive weight-loss program benefiting from three decades of experience understanding and working with women's specific weight-loss and health needs.

The retreat's program features workshops in which state-of-the-art research on
exercise, behavioral, metabolism, and nutrition components is introduced and skilled professionals in the fields of nutrition, exercise physiology, psychology, and stress management guide participants. During their time at Green Mountain, participants begin to identify their personal obstacles to long-term
weight-loss success and, perhaps more importantly, develop and practice new behaviors, strategies, and techniques that can work for them. In small groups, they learn that
eating for successful weight loss and maintenance is a matter of learning how to eat normally rather than dieting, and that successful weight management means making themselves a priority. As participants re-learn how to eat, learn how to move their bodies for pleasure, and sort out their behavioral issues, changes begin inside and outside that will continue throughout their lives.

As one of the oldest all-women weight-loss retreats in the U.S., Green Mountain offers participants years of practical experience about what works coupled with science research in the areas of weight and health. A pioneer of the non-diet movement, Green Mountain focuses on helping participants achieve weight and fitness objectives through sensible and realistic methods. No 'fad diets' are advocated, but instead guests learn to change their lives by changing the way they think, feel, and act. Women of all ages looking to make a lifelong change in their attitudes about health and diet will find Green Mountain's supportive environment refreshing.

The spa is located in 26 wooded acres and offers breathtaking views and fresh air. The facility is a former ski and corporate retreat at the base of Okemo Mountain. As Green Mountain is more of a health facility, the emphasis is not on opulent decorations. The atmosphere is decidedly casual; comfortable activewear and sneakers are the norm. The decor is informal and homey, with big sofas and reading nooks. A number of cozy common rooms are available for socializing, perhaps for a board game or a movie. Camaraderie flourishes at Green Mountain; some guests have returned dozens of times, sometimes with groups of friends made on previous visits. Limited spa services such as massage, reiki, reflexology, and body wraps are available.

Facilities & Amenities

Green Mountain offers a mix of outdoor and indoor activities for participants to choose from. Clay tennis courts, a walking path, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool are located on the grounds (during the winter, aquacize is offered off site), and the Okemo Valley Golf Course is adjacent to the property. Rarely does a day go by without a chance to go "Vermonting" (hiking in the summer, snowshoeing in the winter) on the property's extensive trails or nearby Appalachian trails.

The fitness center offers a variety of activities designed to be done both at the retreat and at home. Everything guests learn at Green Mountain is meant to be incorporated into their everyday lives when they leave. Highlights include:

    Rooms & Dining

There are never more than 35 to 40 women at Green Mountain at any time, assuring a friendly feel. A variety of comfortable accommodation types are available, ranging from single rooms to triple rooms with sleeping lofts. This is certainly not a deprivation program--healthy meals and snacks are offered throughout the day as part of the lifestyle-change experience needed for long-term success. In accordance with the non-diet approach, no foods are prohibited; rather, they are enjoyed in moderation within a structured, balanced meal plan. The menus, mainly American-Mediterranean in flavor, are designed to be simple enough to be re-created at home. A buffet breakfast is offered each morning, with fresh fruit, breads, cereals, and eggs. Lunch and dinner entrees include items such as portabella sweet potato wraps, maple-glazed salmon, Thai turkey soup, and down-home spaghetti and meatballs. Education in the areas of nutrition, eating behavior, and stress management are key. Workshops may include Metabolic Basis of Successful Long-term Weight Loss, Identifying Emotional Eating Triggers, Healthy Eating in Restaurants.
