The joy of floatation is a spa trend that’s still going strong, with more spas adding anti-gravity massage beds and futuristic pods that simulate the experience of floating on a cloud to their facilities – so you can really enjoy the benefits of the silent treatment.
Studies performed in the U.S. and Sweden indicate flotation therapy (tested in tanks) delivers significant reductions in stress, chronic pain, swelling, headaches, depression and insomnia while lowering blood pressure and improving skin. Plus, several studies show ongoing flotation chamber sessions can positively “reset” stress response hormones like cortisol, ACTH and epinephrine.
At Ockenden Manor Spa in the UK, two different rituals have been developed by combining the spa’s isopod floatation tank and bespoke Elemental Herbology treatments. Both are combined with a spoiling treatment, aiming to restore balance and harmony for each guest – and offer a well-deserved break from busy everyday life.
Choose between two levels of ‘The Silent Treatment’ at Ockenden Manor:
Awakening Floatation – the perfect introduction to floating. A consultation and explanation is followed by a 30-minute float and 15 minutes in the relaxation room. The ritual is completed with a with a totally bespoke and customised 5 Element Hot Oil Acupressure Scalp Massage. Working with the crown chakra, it calms and centres the mind.
Absolute Floatation – experience complete escapism for total mind, body and digital detoxification; the consultation and explanation is followed by a 30-minute Macadamia and Papaya body scrub, before 60 minutes floating and 15 minutes in the relaxation room. The finishing touch is a 60 minute Thai Qi Flow treatment – a full body massage that improves the flow of energy within the body, loosens tight muscles and promotes a feeling of total wellbeing.
Just 60 minutes floating is said to have the same effect as three hours’ solid sleep, while energising and rejuvenating the body at the same time. Enter the pod, lie back and switch off to enter a deep meditative state – or simply fall asleep!
