This next instalment of the easy A-Z of Wellness explores what wellness means when looking at the letter P.
Small yet mighty; parsley is full of unique health benefits and is so much more than simply a garnish. The flavonoids found in parsley are great for protecting the skin against cell damage, keeping your skin looking younger and healthier. Parsley is also packed full of Vitamin C which is essential for a healthy and strong immune system. Vitamin C is also a great anti-inflammatory, making it great for soothing conditions such as arthritis. Consuming plenty of folic acid is key to keeping your heart healthy, and eating plenty of parsley is a great way to make sure that you are getting enough folic acid to do just that.
Pilates focuses on strengthening and stretching the whole body to improve balance, muscles strength, flexibility and posture. It also focuses on relaxing the muscles to allow the body to regain its natural shape. Pilates is not necessarily aimed at losing weight and is more aimed and toning and strengthening the body to create a healthier way of life. That said, like any exercise, Pilates will certainly contribute to weight loss if done on a regular basis. Like any exercise, Pilates is a great way of relieving stress before or after a busy day at work, so not only will you be improving your fitness, but you’ll notice the benefits in your day to day life too. Pilates classes are particularly popular and you’ll easily be able to find one near you, by joining a class you can enjoy the social side of it and get motivated too. However there is also the option of staying at home and working through one of the many Pilates tutorials available online or on DVD, which can be great if you have a particularly busy schedule.
At most spas you’ll find paraffin treatments on the menu, due to the fact that paraffin wax is great for your skin and a few other things too. Paraffin wax is often used in manicures and pedicures as it softens the skin and moisturises cuticles. As well as looking after your skin paraffin wax can also be used to get rid of any aches and pains around the body. Applying hot wax to a joint or muscle can trap heat inside the body causing the surrounding tissues to relax and therefore relieving aches and pains. This means that paraffin wax is a great form of pain relief from arthritis or any muscles problems.
