After a hectic weekend, the perfect remedy for a rainy Monday afternoon is a relaxing trip to the spa and mindful massage treatment at The Runnymede on Thames. Conveniently located just minutes from London Heathrow Airport and nearby to Royal Windsor, this four-star hotel offers a retreat 40 minutes away from central London in peaceful Runnymede, Surrey. Set amongst the banks of the River Thames, the Runnymede has stunning sites and displays an original spirit signified by the unique duck logo.
The Spa & Facilities at The Runnymede
Tucked away from the buzz of the main hotel, the award-winning spa at The Runnymede on Thames is bubbling with excitement and activity. At the reception, you are immediately greeted by the lovely and welcoming staff. As it was my first visit, I had a guided tour of the spa facilities including the gym, fitness classes room, indoor pool and the two changing areas with one of the members of staff Rachelle. The changing rooms have everything you need from a women’s only sauna, icy plunge pool and relaxation chair.
I was able to make the most of my afternoon of bliss beginning with a quick workout in the gym, where the personal trainers are on hand to advise about any questions you have. The exercise room has a weights area and an extensive range of state of the art equipment perfect to alleviate stress and take some time out for yourself. Then I enjoyed a dip in the jacuzzi and indoor pool, which is ideal for swimming lengths (there is also the added bonus of a separate kids pool). The contemporary pool area boasts relaxation loungers perfect for families and groups who are relaxing at the spa together. After delighting in both the sauna and steam room, I slipped into my robe and slippers and relaxed in The Garden Room with a refreshment before my treatment.
Signature Spa Treatment: Mindful Massage
My Therapist Becky warmly greeted me in the reception area and kindly escorted me to one of the six treatment rooms for my massage. The treatment room was a tranquil oasis with soothing spa scents and dim lighting, which all compliment the benefits of the treatment. Before the massage, Becky informed me on the details of the treatment and tailored the massage to my needs. As my treatment was in the evening the consensus was to go with a deeply relaxing mix of oils such as sandalwood and lavender to enhance a peaceful nights sleep.
The treatment I had the pleasure of trying out was the Mindful Massage, a 1 hour 10-minute massage to calm both mind and body. We started with deep breathing exercises akin to mediation to focus and relax the mind. Next, I was told to choose a colour and imagine that colour travelling and flowing through my body down to my toes. The full body massage starts with a foot zone massage to rebalance and ground, continuing with a soothing massage up through the body. Finally finishing with a re-energising scalp massage using warm Rose Quartz Crystals, which I especially loved. The deep breathing technique is continued throughout the entirety of the massage, which uniquely released the tension I was holding in both my body and mind. Afterwards, I felt renewed and revived. The massage was exceptional!
I left The Runnymede feeling stress-free and rejuvenated. The whole experience was deeply relaxing just like the massage treatment itself. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and always there to help. If you are in need of some me-time I would highly recommend the Mindful Massage treatment at The Runnymede on Thames. I would also recommend the spa in particular to groups and families and I plan to treat my Mum to a Mum & Me spa day at the hotel soon!
