Ayurveda Retreat: Ayurvedic Remedies at a Spa Near You

What is Ayurveda treatment?

Ayurveda was founded over 5,000 years ago in India. Since then Ayurveda has been introduced into the mainstream, and is becoming an increasingly popular spa treatment.

Ayurveda is a belief that everything on this planet - living or dead - is connected through mind, body and spirit. If you become disconnected, this is where an imbalance forms and you become sick. An Ayurvedic treatment works to rebalance the mind, body and soul - in other words, it gives you good health.

Oils and herbal remedies are used in Ayurveda treatments to reconnect you with your mind and body and promotes the body’s energy to self-heal.

What are the three Ayurvedic body types?

Ayurvedic practises are made up of 5 elements: space, air, fire, water and earth. Combining these elements with the human body creates three energies referred to as doshas.
The three Ayurvedic body types are:

  • Vata dosha, a mixture of space and air. This body type is believed to be the most important as this controls your bodily functions such as breathing and blood flow.
  • Pitta dosha, a mixture of fire and water. This body type controls your hormones, appetite and metabolism.
  • Kapha dosha, a mixture of water and earth. This body type controls your immune system, weight, strength, and encourages muscle growth.

Know Before You Go

Ayurveda is a treatment for detoxing and realigning your body spiritually. It’s also great for relaxation, while the oil and herbal remedies used will leave you with beautifully soft and supple skin.

Every Ayurveda treatment is different, as it’s tailored to the client. At the start of the treatment your therapist will determine your dosha (body type) and will create a bespoke treatment based off of the results.
