What Is Thai Massage?

Thai massage is an ancient form of massage that has recently gained popularity in modern spas. A Thai massage increases your flexibility and reduces muscle and joint tension by using passive techniques to stretch the muscles. Our body consists of energy lines and by applying pressure to these areas, a Thai massage will balance your body’s energy system resulting in a relaxation like you’ve never experienced before.

What do you wear to a Thai massage?

A Thai massage isn’t your typical style of massage and for this treatment, you are required to wear clothes. In theory, you can wear whatever clothing you wish, however it’s best to wear loose-fitting and comfortable clothing as your therapist will be pulling and stretching your limbs; some may even walk on you!

What is the difference between Thai massage and regular massage?

A regular massage consists of a massage table, oils, use of hands, fists, forearms and elbows, and a relatively gentle pressure. For a Thai massage, aside from you being fully clothed, you will lie on the floor on a mat to allow for a much larger area of mobility. A Thai massage therapist may also use their knees, legs and feet to pull and stretch out your muscles.

Know Before You Go

A Thai massage should leave you incredibly relaxed, however it’s a pretty intense treatment. Before you book your massage, it’s worth researching the techniques used and how they’ll benefit your body, to ensure it’s right for you. There are a lot of twists, turns, pulls and stretches in a Thai massage, so make sure you wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothing.

After your treatment you’ll feel relaxed, flexible, realigned, and maybe even a few inches taller!
